Why the right size matters

Every platform crops images to its own ratio. Upload the wrong size and your logo gets cut, text ends up under story buttons, and the cover photo shows half on mobile. An image made at the right ratio takes more space in the feed and earns more engagement.

What changed going into 2026

  • Instagram went vertical: the profile grid is now 3:4 instead of square. The safest feed choice is still 1080 × 1350 (4:5); 3:4 images can only be posted from the app.
  • Vertical wins everywhere: on Facebook, LinkedIn and X, 4:5 portrait images also take the most feed space.
  • Safe zones matter: on Stories, Reels, Shorts and TikTok the profile info at the top and the caption at the bottom sit on top of the image. The safe-zone guide in the crop tool shows those areas.

How to use the crop tool

  • Choose your image or drag and drop it.
  • Pick a target size from the list, or click “Crop to this size” on a card below.
  • Drag the image to position it and zoom with the slider. Stories and profile photos show the safe zone and circle crop.
  • Download it at the exact size as JPG, PNG or WebP.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about social media images.

What is the best image size for Instagram?

As of 2026, 1080 × 1350 pixels (4:5) is the safest choice for feed posts: it takes the most space and works with every scheduling tool. Use 1080 × 1920 (9:16) for Stories and Reels.

Which size should I use for LinkedIn?

1080 × 1350 portrait or 1080 × 1080 square for feed images, 1200 × 627 for link previews and 1584 × 396 pixels for a personal profile banner.

Why does my image look blurry?

If your image is smaller than the target size it gets upscaled and loses sharpness. The crop tool warns you when this happens. Start with an image at least as large as the target.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Cropping happens entirely in your browser; your image never leaves your computer.

How often are the sizes updated?

Platforms change sizes from time to time. The sizes on this page were checked in October 2026 and will be updated when they change.
