Character Counter: does your text fit the limit?

Type or paste your text to see characters, words, sentences and reading time instantly. At the same time, see how much room is left on X, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest and Google, and how many parts an SMS will split into.

Platform limits

Why count characters?

Every platform has a limit, and text over it is either rejected or cut. Google truncates titles after about 60 characters, Instagram allows at most 5 hashtags, and X stops free accounts at 280 characters. The counter shows all these limits at once while you write, so there are no surprises after publishing.

What makes it different

  • X’s real counting: X always counts links as 23 characters and emoji and some characters as 2. The counter applies these rules.
  • SMS segments: characters outside the standard SMS alphabet switch a message to Unicode and cut a single SMS from 160 to 70 characters. The counter shows how many parts your SMS will use.
  • Case tools: switch between uppercase, lowercase, title case and sentence case in one click.
  • Privacy: your text stays in your browser, and you can pick up where you left off.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about character limits.

Do spaces count as characters?

Yes, almost every platform counts spaces as characters. The counter also shows the count without spaces.

How many hashtags can I use on Instagram?

According to Instagram’s current help page, you can use up to 5 hashtags per post. The counter warns you when you go over.

How long can a LinkedIn post be?

Up to 3,000 characters. Only the first few lines show in the feed and the rest hides behind “see more”, so lead with your key sentence.

Why is my SMS shorter than 160 characters?

The standard SMS alphabet (GSM-7) lacks many accented and non-Latin letters. Using even one switches the message to Unicode, cutting a single SMS to 70 characters; longer messages split into 67-character parts.

Is my text saved?
